Swim

The swim takes place in the 50 meter outdoor Nelson Pool.  Lifeguards will be on deck at all times.

  • There will be a maximum of 10 athletes per wave. Athletes will swim two per lane.
  • The swim will start in the water (no diving or jumping).
  • One parent or guardian (16 years +) must accompany athletes in the 3-5 age group in the water (swim takes place in shallow end only for this age group) and on foot for the bike and run.
  • Athletes 3-5 years may use water wings, puddle jumpers or a life jacket.
  • Life jackets are offered so that athletes feel 100% comfortable swimming in this environment. The life jacket is not intended as an aid for non-swimmers. It is not a requirement for athletes to continuously swim their designated distance. Resting by using the lane ropes or side walls is permitted and encouraged.
  • Life jackets will be offered and supplied for all age groups.
  • Contact us with special requests for the swim portion.

Special Policies for 6-7 Year Olds in the Burlington Event

All athletes in the 6-7 age group will be required to wear a CSA-certified life jacket. You will be permitted to bring your own or the City will provide one to you.

Special Policies for 8-9 & 10-11 Year Olds in the Burlington Event

All athletes in the 8-9 and 10-11 age groups will be required to complete a 25m swim test in advance of their race. A set time will be allocated before the event begins to allow any interested athletes the opportunity to complete the swim. This may require you to arrive at the race site earlier than normal. More details will be available on this event page soon and in email communications to athletes.

If an athlete chooses not to complete the swim test during the allocated period or fails the swim test, they will be required to wear a CSA-certified life jacket (provided by the City or you) during the swim portion of the event.

We are unable to provide exceptions to either of the above policies as they are mandated by the City of Burlington.

Bike

The bike course is a 1 km loop on a vehicle free road within the park. The road is paved and flat. Older age groups will do multiple loops to complete their respective distance.

Run

The run course takes athletes around the perimeter of the soccer field. The run is a 500 meter ‘track’ entirely on grass. Athletes will complete the required number of laps to achieve their respective distance. There will be one water station set up for all age groups.  The older age groups will pass the water station several times.

Bike Inspection

In order to avoid disappointment on race day we recommend that you take your bike in for a pre-race safety inspection the week before the race. Technical problems can easily be avoided. Check helmets for proper fit.

Post Race

Please be sure to pick up ALL belongings after the race. Lost and found items are gathered and left at the race site. The organizers are not responsible for items left at the race site.

Finishing times will be posted on this link within hours of race completion.
